Freschete
Freschete was a portrait series about the people who are new to New Orleans; her non-native locals. In a town so immersed in her own history and made of people who have been here for generations, I'm fascinated by how many people I meet here that aren't native to the city, but chose to live here, and actively struggled to make that happen.
I was one of those people and actively gathered volunteers who were:
1. over 18 and not native to New Orleans or the immediate area.
2. someone who wanted to live in New Orleans and came a good distance to get here. If they were transferred with a job, moved from the burbs into the city, or otherwise just ended up here, they weren’t a good match for this series.
They filled out a questionnaire, then chose their favorite public places in or around the city and we met there. I took photos, we had a chat, and relished the community that we were a part of.
